“Clickers “ or Personal Response Systems WorkshopOn January 23, 2010, students in the IMSP Program in Biology participated in a workshop put on by eInstruction on personal response systems (PRS) or “Clickers” as part of the BIOS 605 Science Teacher Institute in Biology. eIntruction’s representative, Ms. Susan Junior, described the features of the personal response system and its potential use in assessing students in real time. IMSP students participated in activities utilizing the PRS which included games for reviewing biology content information as well as testing strategies. IMSP students also spent the afternoon generating a data base of assessment items that teachers can incorporate into their own testing strategies for biology. In addition, the program has fours PRS units IMSP students can check out and use in their classes on a temporary basis.

On February 20, 2010, students in the IMSP Program in Biology presented their Hands On Projects as part of the BIOS 605 Science Teacher Institute in Biology. In the morning IMSP students presented their Hands-on Project synopsis. Synopsis presentations lasted about 5 to 10 minutes for each project. The brief synopsis helped everyone to better understand the plan of the project as well as decide which projects they want to participate in during the afternoon session.
During the afternoon session IMSP students set up their Hands-on Projects as an actual classroom activities with a group of peers acting as students in the class. IMSP students presented in groups with some presenting and some participating by doing the project. The classroom activities took about 45minutes each. Also, IMSP student brought a finished product to show what they expect the results to look like. Digital files of the projects can be viewed in the Show Case section of the IMSP web site.
