B. megaterium QM B1551
QM B1551 is the most extensively studied strain of B. megaterium. Several hundred strains are available from the Bacillus Genetic Stock Center and the Vary’s Lab. QM B1551 (Quarter Master Bacterium #1551, ATCC12872) was isolated by Hillel Levinson at the Pioneering Research Division, Quartermaster and Engineering Center, Natick, MA and has been the strain of choice in several laboratories. Historically, the strain has been used for many studies on various aspects of spore physiology and cell wall structure (diaminopimelic acid). As this strain is used in studies worldwide, the genomic data obtained will be beneficial to the community at large.
